Mukta Salave, The First Dalit Women Writer on Caste and Religion

THE FIRST DALIT GIRL STUDENT/Writer on Caste and Religion-
Mukta Salve, grand daughter of Lahuji Salve, a fourteen-year 'Matanga'
(untouchable) girl studying for three years and studying in third standard
in school of Mahatma and Sawitrbai Phule, was honored for the best essay in
school by Major Candy. In reply she said in English, "Sir, give us Library
and no Prizes."
Her essay on "Dharma" (Religion) was read in a gathering of about 3000
people in presence of Major Candy. Some thoughts in her essay are worth
remembering even now, after a century and half, as she raised the question
capable of shattering whole of Brahminism. If we are not authorized to read
the scriptures created by Brahmins, she asked, how do we belong
to this religion?
She said:
"The Brahmins say that, the Vedas are their own property. Only we should
see them. This makes it clear that we do not have a book of religion. If
the Vedas are for Brahmins, it is the duty of Brahmins to behave according
to the Vedas. If we have no right to see the book of religion, we are
people devoid of religion. It is very clear. Is it not? So Oh God, inform
us what is the religion coming from you. So that we all would get the
experience accordingly."
"They had continued the practice of feeding us oil and vermilion and
burring us in the foundations of the buildings and forts and cause our
genocide. Those days, if a Mahar or a Mang walks past their door, they
would play the game of ball in the 'Gultekadi' - PUNE, making his head the ball and sword would be the bat. Such was the ban on walking past the gates of king
practicing untouchability. How was it possible to get permission to learn?
If somebody learned to read, and if Bajirao (Peshava) comes to know it, he
would say. 'These Mahar Mangs are reading, though untouchables. What should
the Brahmins do, give them the Office work and take the barber's bag and
look for the job of tonsuring the widows, for themselves?' So saying he
used to punish them."
"If I narrate these atrocities in detail, I feel like crying. Therefore,
the God has been kind to us that he sent the kind English Government to
rule over us, and thereby we were relieved of these tyrannical cruelties."
Further she wrote:
"The practice of burying us in foundations of building and forts was
stopped. Our population also increasing. If a Mahar or Mang used a decent
cloth, they used to say this man has stolen it. Such cloths are to be used
by Brahmins only. If Mahars Mangs use it they would be corrupting the
religion; so saying they used to tie us and beat us. But now under the
English rule, anybody can earn and can purchase clothes of liking. They
used to behead the Mang or Mahar, if he committed a crime. That practice
also is stopped. The cruel system of free forced unpaid labour is also
stopped. In some places, practice of 'touch me not' ism is also stopped.
Now we are free to walk in the markets of 'Gultekadi'- Pune."

Biased liberal takes on India's new head of historical research

http://scroll.in/article/670555/Exploitation-of-labour-in-the-Gulf-begins-right-at-home-in-India
As professor Rao said in a recent interview, to question his appointment is to question democracy itself.
Over the past few days, I’ve sat back and seen the liberal mafia assassinate the character of eminent historian and new chairperson of the Indian Council of Historical Research, Dr. Professor YS Rao. Of course, this was expected. Considering who appointed him, I was surprised that it took them so long.

As professor Rao said in an interview to Outlook magazine, to question his appointment is to question democracy itself. At least no one can accuse him of lacking humility.

The campaign to oust this noble teacher reached fever pitch yesterday, when a national newspaper took a blog-post that professor Rao had written all the way back in 2007 and excerpted it out of context. Classic liberal mafia! Using things a historian had written seven years ago against such a popular, hard-working and patriotic citizen of the country.

If the gotcha-journalists had published the full post, it wouldn’t have looked so bad. Reading the whole thing, it emerges that professor Rao echoed the feelings of a lot of patriots in this country when he wrote that there were a lot of good things about the caste system, things that people don’t know about because of a misinformation campaign run by the Mughal dynasty and then the British Raj.

He feels that in our hurry to be politically correct, we are unable to see the benefits of the caste system

Nothing’s Perfect!I’m sure the caste system had some flaws. Nothing’s perfect! However, any system which has survived for thousands of years and still affects the life of millions can’t beall bad. It’s bound to have some positives! Why doesn’t the liberal mafia highlight any of these benefits, if they claim to be so neutral? That’s because they want to turn the people of this country against their own ancient culture. We’re lucky professor Rao is here to correct that.

Even today, most parents dream of their children following in their footsteps and choosing the same line of work as them. The caste system just institutionalised this desire. It’s our culture to respect the wishes of elders, whether they’re right or wrong, and our ancestors were doing just that. What sort of Westernised monster would hold that against them.

The caste system might look unfair in today’s world, but it was the right thing to do in those times. It was a great way to divide work among people. There were no TED conferences our ancestors could attend, which would explain to them the benefits of not forcing people into a lifetime of serfdom. There were no books about management theory explaining Maslow's hierarchy of needs that they could refer to. They just had to go by common sense, and during those times, condemning people to a lifetime of poverty, hunger, disease and sadness so that you could live a life of unmitigated and uninterrupted joy seemed like a sensible thing to do.

Offer LetterAnother advantage of a rigid caste system, as professor Rao elucidates, is that it ensured job security for everyone. It was like getting an offer letter the minute you were born. You didn’t even have to make a resume. There was no need for a LinkedIn account. Followers of the caste system weren’t bothered by unsolicited calls from Planman consultants. They didn’t need to go to terrible interviews in which they were forced to pretend to care about the hand soap they would soon be shilling. They just had the job. What more could they ask for?

Just like the good professor, I haven’t heard any complaints about the caste system either. Granted, I have only spoken to its beneficiaries, but they would know if people below their station were suffering, wouldn’t they?

The liberal mafia doesn’t like that a person who is actually proud of our heritage is now running the ICHR. They sent one of their big guns, Marxist hero and likely ISI agent Romila Thapar to take him on. Thapar had the temerity of accusing Professor Rao of not publishing anything in a peer-reviewed journal. That is not a disqualification, Ms. Thapar. That makes him even more awesome! He published his work on his blog and it was reviewed by perhaps the greatest intellectual force the world has ever known: people who leave anonymous comments on the internet. Anyway, these so called peers are also agents of the liberal mafia, so why should the good professor bother about them?

The Proper PastAs professor Rao wrote in one of his blog posts, the only reason we’re behind other countries is because of an international conspiracy to keep us from succeeding. The rest of the world is scared of what we will be capable of doing when we realise our full potential. And we can only realise our potential when we properly understand our past.

Five thousand years ago, we were the America of the world, except with better gun control. But systematic invasions weakened us. Professor Rao rightly determines that our country faced an unprecedented number of invasions because of our rich heritage. They didn’t come after India’s wealth, no. They couldn’t get enough of our culture.

Professor Rao writes that the ancients had a portal where they could connect with our gods. That’s right. Our ancestors could literally FaceTime with the good lord anytime they wanted to. That helped them gain knowledge about everything under the sun, before the western world could even develop language skills. Yet our forefathers were not boastful about this fact!

With our bank of ancient wisdom and the entrepreneurial spirit of our people, we could have even invented the internet. But we refused to do it because we knew it would lead to wide distribution of free pornography. Which is another Western import that is ruining the pure minds of our country’s youth. This is why I applaud the brave efforts of our new health minister to get people in this country to stop having sex altogether, so that we can preserve our way of life.

Caste in EducationAnother advantage of having professor Rao as our historian-in-chief is that this will aid him in his relentless quest to pin-point the exact date of the main battle of theMahabharata. Despite what the brainwashed pinko Commie agents tell you, we all know that there is nothing metaphorical about our ancient texts. It’s all literal. These events actually happened. As you can see, these aren’t just stories passed from one generation to the next until someone was thoughtful enough to note it down. Nope. These were passed around word for word, without the narrator’s biases or abilities of comprehension interfering with the narrative.

But there are other important questions that need to be asked too. What sort of weapons system did they use? Did Sanjay see the battle on an LCD or plasma television? Was some of the miscommunication on the battlefield a result of using a Vodafone connection? Did Arnab Goswami ask tough questions in the interview he conducted with Duryodhan?

For that to happen, we need to give professor Rao as much support as he needs in his new role at the ICHR.

The established Marxist historians have dominated the ICHR for many decades. People like professor Rao have been denied access to positions of eminence in the upper echelons of the historian community. It’s time to end this apartheid!

What sort of horrible individual would suppress the rights of others based on an arbitrary code of conduct that gives no choice to those at the bottom of the pyramid?

Oh, wait.

Vaidik-Saeed Meeting: The NDA Mirror Has Cracked

http://www.ndtv.com/article/opinion/vaidik-saeed-meeting-the-nda-mirror-has-cracked-558769?pfrom=home-otherstories

(Kumar Ketkar is a senior journalist, political commentator, globe trotter and author. He has covered all Indian elections since 1971 and significant international events. He is a frequent participant on TV debates.)

About two years ago, Ved Pratap Vaidik, the well-known writer-journalist had said publicly that Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the only 26/11 terrorist captured alive, should have been tortured and hanged in a public square. That was on November 21, 2012. Today, the same RSS sympathizer, Vaidik, is in the news for attempting to bring about a "change of heart" in the man who masterminded Kasab's terror operation, Hafeez Saeed, by meeting him in Pakistan. Vaidik is known as a "philosopher" who is close to the self-styled yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

In June 2009, the special court which tried Kasab issued a non-bailable warrant against Hafeez Saeed, the chief of operations and the head of the Lashkar-e-Taiba accusing him of planning the attack on Mumbai and killing over 160 innocent people. The warrant is still pending. For years, the Pakistani authorities have refused to even recognize that Hafeez was propagating hatred against India and was also organizing terrorist groups. Hafeez had also said that there will be more terrorist attacks on India and his aim is to cut India into pieces.

Hafeez himself has always claimed that he is a social worker and an Islamic preacher. However, recently Hafeez, the head of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, was declared by the United States government as one of the most dreaded terrorists in the world; it even announced a $10 million award for his capture. Hafeez is an expert in changing the names of his terrorist groups to evade arrest and trial. But it is common knowledge that the Pakistani authorities, both political and military, always protect Hafeez and even use him for anti-India propaganda. He is also a fanatic campaigner for the "freedom of Kashmir."

Yet, the journalist cum self-declared track-2 negotiator with Pakistan, Vaidik thought that he would serve the patriotic and humanist cause of building confidence and friendship with the neighbour who has been at war with India since Independence.

The timing of making public the ill-famed meeting, which took place a fortnight ago, of the the terrorist with the yogi-disciple, is also intriguing. Almost immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Brazil for the BRICS summit, the relaxed photo of the twosome appeared in the media, with the bizarre conversation that has embarrassed the NDA government to no end within just two months of coming to power.

The reported conversation makes it reasonably clear that Vaidik was acting on behalf of the Sangh Parivar, and most likely the BJP and NDA, notwithstanding their hypocritical denial. We have only Vaidik's version of the conversation. We have no idea as to what actually transpired  between the two and whether Vaidik has given some kind of "veiled message" to Hafeez. We don't know whether Vaidik asked in his "friendly conversation" about how he recruited Kasab and his terrorist gang, how he runs the terrorist camps, how he manages to get support from the establishment of Pakistan.

The BJP denial about having blessed the meeting is absolutely not convincing, because it is well known that Baba Ramdev is not only close to Modi, but also a guru to a large number in the Parivar. Also Ajit Doval, the NSA boss and top intelligence man of the NDA government, is part of the Vivekanand Trust run by Ramdev. That raises doubt about the claim made by Vaidik that he was merely being a well-meaning journalist.

Vaidik, in fact, has given a clear enough indication that he was meeting Hafeez to persuade him to even welcome Modi, if not invite him. The BJP is red faced because during the UPA regime, their partymen had virtually taken the Parliament by storm and fire for even establishing a dialogue with Pakistan. The BJP and Shiv Sena protested when there was a proposal to hold a cricket match between the two countries. The debate in the House was stalled by noise and gheraos.

But we can just imagine how the BJP and the whole Parivar would have gone to town shouting and screaming if the government in Delhi was that of the UPA and Hafeez had met with someone close to the Congress. It is not a question of a journalist being free to interview or converse with anyone. Indeed, a journalist does enjoy considerable freedom. But clearly Vaidik was not exercising his journalistic right.

The meeting with Hafeez could not have been even arranged without the involvement of the ISI and the political establishment of Pakistan. That makes it a sinister track-2 approach of the NDA government. Hafeez has a clear agenda. He wants to overcome the American warrant on him and whitewash his sins. Vaidik has helped the most dreaded terrorist in the Indian subcontinent to enter into the dialogue between India and Pakistan. The NDA mirror has cracked and now there are multiple mutilated images.

Why Readers, Scientifically, Are The Best People To Fall In Love With

Why Readers, Scientifically, Are The Best People To Fall In Love With
LIFE •  •
LIKE US ON FACEBOOK
Ever finished a book? I mean, truly finished one? Cover to cover. Closed the spine with that slow awakening that comes with reentering consciousness?
You take a breath, deep from the bottom of your lungs and sit there. Book in both hands, your head staring down at the cover, back page or wall in front of you.
You’re grateful, thoughtful, pensive. You feel like a piece of you was just gained and lost. You’ve just experienced something deep, something intimate. (Maybe, erotic?) You just had an intense and somewhat transient metamorphosis.
Like falling in love with a stranger you will never see again, you ache with the yearning and sadness of an ended affair, but at the same time, feel satisfied. Full from the experience, the connection, the richness that comes after digesting another soul. You feel fed, if only for a little while.
This type of reading, according to TIME magazine’s Annie Murphy Paul, is called “deep reading,” a practice that is soon to be extinct now that people are skimming more and reading less.
Readers, like voicemail leavers and card writers, are now a dying breed, their numbers decreasing with every GIF list and online tabloid.
The worst part about this looming extinction is that readers are proven to be nicer and smarter than the average human, and maybe the only people worth falling in love with on this shallow hell on earth.
According to both 2006 and 2009 studies published by Raymond Mar, a psychologist at York University in Canada, and Keith Oatley, a professor of cognitive psychology at the University of Toronto, those who read fiction are capable of the most empathy and “theory of mind,” which is the ability to hold opinions, beliefs and interests apart from their own.
They can entertain other ideas, without rejecting them and still retain their own. While this is supposed to be an innate trait in all humans, it requires varying levels of social experiences to bring into fruition and probably the reason your last partner was such a narcissist.
Did you ever see your ex with a book? Did you ever talk about books? If you didn’t, maybe you should think about changing your type.
It’s no surprise that readers are better people. Having experienced someone else’s life through abstract eyes, they’ve learned what it’s like to leave their bodies and see the world through other frames of reference.
They have access to hundreds of souls, and the collected wisdom of all them. They have seen things you’ll never understand and have experienced deaths of people you’ll never know.
They’ve learned what it’s like to be a woman, and a man. They know what it’s like to watch someone suffer. They are wise beyond their years.
Another 2010 study by Mar reinforces this idea with results that prove the more stories children have read to them, the keener their “theory of mind.” So while everyone thinks their kids are the best, the ones who read have the edge as they truly are the wiser, more adaptable and understanding children.
Because reading is something that molds you and adds to your character. Each triumph, lesson and pivotal moment of the protagonist becomes your own.
Every ache, pain and harsh truth becomes yours to bear. You’ve traveled with authors and experienced the pain, sorrow and anguish they suffered while writing through it. You’ve lived a thousand lives and come back to learn from each of them.
If you’re still looking for someone to complete you, to fill the void of your singly-healed heart, look for the breed that’s dying out. You will find them in coffee shops, parks and subways.
You will see them with backpacks, shoulder bags and suitcases. They will be inquisitive and soulful, and you will know by the first few minutes of talking to them.

They Won’t Talk To You… They’ll Speak To You

They will write you letters and texts in verse. They are verbose, but not in the obnoxious way. They do not merely answer questions and give statements, but counter with deep thoughts and profound theories. They will enrapture you with their knowledge of words and ideas.
According to the study, “What Reading Does For The Mind” by Anne E. Cunningham of the University of California, Berkeley, reading provides a vocabulary lesson that children could never attain by schooling.
According to Cunningham, “the bulk of vocabulary growth during a child’s lifetime occurs indirectly through language exposure rather than through direct teaching.”
Do yourself a favor and date someone who really knows how to use their tongue.

They Don’t Just Get You… They Understand You

You should only fall in love with someone who can see your soul. It should be someone who has reached inside you and holds those innermost parts of you no one could find before. It should be someone who doesn’t just know you, but wholly and completely understands you.
According to Psychologist David Comer Kidd, at the New School for Social Research, “What great writers do is to turn you into the writer. In literary fiction, the incompleteness of the characters turns your mind to trying to understand the minds of others.”
This is proved over and over again, the more people take to reading. Their ability to connect with characters they haven’t met makes their understanding of the people around them much easier.
They have the capacity for empathy. They may not always agree with you, but they will try to see things from your point of view.

They’re Not Just Smart… They’re Wise

Being overly smart is obnoxious, being wise is a turn on. There’s something irresistible about someone you can learn from. The need for banter and witty conversation is more imperative than you may believe, and falling in love with a reader will enhance not just the conversation, but the level of it.
According to Cunningham, readers are more intelligent, due to their increased vocabulary and memory skills, along with their ability to spot patterns. They have higher cognitive functions than the average non-reader and can communicate more thoroughly and effectively.
Finding someone who reads is like dating a thousand souls. It’s gaining the experience they’ve gained from everything they’ve ever read and the wisdom that comes with those experiences. It’s like dating a professor, a romantic and an explorer.
If you date someone who reads, then you, too, will live a thousand different lives.
